My posts consist of a variety of different subjects from photos with my highschool friends, to rowing photos to street photography. My online identity reflects my different interests and activities. I like to post things on instagram that show me being active in my community. By the end of college I hope to expand my online identity to be more professional. I want future employers to look at my social media and see someone who is well rounded.

Domain Of One’s own if slightly intimidating for me. I am not entirely sure what to add to my domain that accurately reflects who I am. I do however know that I am very involved in politics. I have been involved in local elections in the past and have canvassed for candidates. I am involved on campus and am secretary of the Young Democrats Club. I am passionate about getting people involved in politics whether that is informing them about different candidates or registering people to vote. I am committed to sharing the importance of voting with my fellow classmates and community.

As for creating other domains, I hope to one day make one dedicated to art and/or photography. I enjoy creating art as well as photography. I have already shared some of my artwork on a pinterest page, it has zero followers but I still enjoy sharing. I use photography as a way to reconnect with the world around me. It helps me to destress and enjoy the little things in life. Street photography is my favorite type of photography.

For aesthetic purposes I hope to stick with a warm color theme. I really enjoy shades of orange and red. Font wise, I think I will make it simple and stick with a font that is easy to read but is also visually appealing. Will probably take me a while to experiment with different color shades and fonts before I find my aesthetic.

Digital Engagement #3

I have a general idea of what I would like my website to look like. I found some pictures in my camera roll that I would like to add. The pictures highlight my involvement in the field of political science. For the overall color theme and visuals, I’m going to stick with a bright color theme with a majority of orange, pink, yellow, light blue, and green. I browsed Pinterest to find some inspiration and found some ideas I liked. For my favicon, i’m going to do a red rose behind a pink background. My favicon is a red rose in front of a light pink background. I’m going to go with a plant/flower theme for my website because I think it looks pretty. Below are website ideas that I brainstormmed as well as my favicon.

Digital Engagement #4

This is an interesting question because on one hand, a real life person is creating the prompt and are able to type in what they want. The ideas are coming from their mind (most of the time). But on the other hand, they are not the ones creating the art, a computer is generating it for them. Even if a person came up with the prompt doesn’t mean they physically created the art.

Even though AI generated artworks can be very beautiful and authentic looking, I don’t think AI-generated works should be considered art. The art is not being created by humans, it’s being created by a robot. Art is an expression of emotion, driven by the human experience. AI lacks the capacity to feel emotions and does not possess lived experiences. Art serves the purpose of educating, inspiring, entertaining, communicating ideas, and offering reflections on our society. Artificial intelligence is designed to replicate human cognitive function; it is intended to think like humans. “The goal for AI is to be able to do things such as recognize patterns, make decisions, and judge like humans.” AI art lacks human inspiration and authenticity.

Artists often have a deeply personal reflective process that shapes their work. I am not saying that all art has to be profound and emotional, I just don’t believe that AI is capable of integrating an emotional aspect into art. I have a genuine concern that our heavy dependence on AI for creating art could diminish our humanity. I believe that AI art should be acknowledged as a unique category within the art world, separate from traditional art. Integrating AI art into mainstream art should be approached cautiously.

Digital Engagement #5

Digital Engagement #6

For this assignment, I watched one of my all-time favorite films, WALL-E. Although this universe takes place in a dystopian world, many aspects of it are scarily similar to the world we live in today. Two aspects are the rapidly expansive world of space travel and robots. Billionaires such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have further developed the idea of commercial space travel. Blue Origin, an aerospace company created by Bezos in 2000, was founded with the goal of people living and working in space. Bezos has since joined the space tourism race, where he offers short trips to space for paying customers. Jeff Bezos’ first space tourists were the crew of the New Shepard’s first human flight in 2021.

Like the movie WALL-E, Space tourism has gained significant momentum in recent years—companies such as Blue Origin, SpaceX, and Virgin Galactic. The spaceship that carries hundreds of passengers in WALL-E is called Axiom. While watching the movie, I noticed a lot of similarities, such as the idea that the Earth becomes unsustainable for human life, forcing people to travel into space. These Billionaires, such as Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, are aware that Earth may be livable, so they are discovering ways to live in space. The idea behind these space companies, such as SpaceX, is to make it possible for humans to live on other planets. The company’s broader goal is to ensure the long-term survival of humanity.

In the movie WALL-E, the ship is run by robots. These robots are highly intelligent and are able to perform human tasks such as teaching, cutting hair, and piloting a spaceship. Like the robots in WALL-E, robots are being programmed to perform jobs previously performed by humans. There is a scene in the movie where one of the robots tries to sabotage the plan to venture back to Earth. It makes me wonder about the future of technology and if robots, like in the movie, will turn against us.

Digital Engagement #7

As I documented all the digital devices I used over the past 24 hours, I learned that I heavily rely on technology in my daily life. One of the first things I do when I wake up is hit snooze on my alarm clock, which is on my phone. Then, when I wake up, I scroll through my phone. I look at my phone every morning. Then I go to the bathroom and brush my teeth with my electric toothbrush. Within the first hour, I wake up, I already use multiple technological items. When I get home from class, I often drive somewhere to have dinner. My car is equipped with a screen that connects to my phone. I use my phone for music and navigation when driving.

Keeping a 24-hour journal really opened my eyes to how much I rely on the internet and technology in my day-to-day routine.

Digital Engagement #8

Some things I learned about getting started with a video project is to create an outline first. Writing out a script is important because it will help me stay on track. If I am having trouble creating an outline for my project or am struggling on which direction to take it, I can always visit the speaking and writing center. The DKC also has spaces that I can book if I want a quiet place to record.

Editing tools are also important to use when completing a video project. I learned that I have access to beginner friendly editing tools that I plan to use. Editing tools such as Canva, iMovie, YouTube Studio and Zoom are all editing tools I plan on exploring.

Digital Engagement #9

Sadly I was not in class on the day I was supposed to practice creating with AI tool. Luckily, I watched “Is Ai Creative” and caught up with the lesson. I explored Microsoft copilot for the first time. I realized there are so many open AI chats that I haven’t been exposed to yet. I continue to be amazed at how much open AI has developed over the years.

Digital Engagement #10

Over the course of this semester this class has broadened my knowledge of the world of digital media and the history of the internet. I learned the most on the days where my peers presented their projects. Having the students teach class for a day was very beneficial and increased my understanding of various topics surrounding the digital world. Some of the information presented was very shocking such as the disturbing statistics showing the rise of mental health problems beginning in 2009. It opened my eyes to how the introduction to the internet affected the entire world in a similar way in terms of mental health.

The process of website building was nerve racking at first but I soon became more comfortable using the various tools and technologies. The thought of future employers looking at my social media presence made me evaluate my instagram and caused me to reflect on how I want to present myself on social media. Having my own website has instilled a sense of pride in my abilities to navigate new media and technology.

Digital engagement #1 I browsed through my instagram to get an idea of what my online identity reflects and I think it’s best summed up using one word, dynamic.
